URGENT Please Help - Virus? Clean Registry 32 website?

G

Guest

Hi,

I got a Message Service window that popped up saying that I had a message
from Micro Soft and Windows had detected a virus. It told me to go to
Internet Explorer and type in "http:www.cleanmyreg.com/" and follow the
instructions to download this file. It took me to a webiste called Registry
Cleaner 32.com, is this legitimate or is it some kind of virus or hacker?

It also says if I don't download this right away my hard drive could crash.

Should I download this file and trust this website, I didn't see any proof
that it was linked to Micro Soft? My virus protection is currently expired
so running a scan is of no help right now.

Thanks for your help!

To follow the advice given by the site you quote will
almost certainly cripple your machine with a virus or with
some malware. It's the same as you finding a sandwich
lying on park bench in a bag labelled "Eat me!". Would
you?

First listen carefully to Pegasus!

Now configure it and use it... You can disable the messenger service via the
normal methods but it will avail you nothing more than false thoughts of
protection. Before you follow any messenger service spam (not the same as
windows messenger) you should buy three black hens and set them to laying
eggs, burn candles at no less than a single 18 inch taper per 4 hours, and
consider beliefs that follow the Sun. After all it appears every day
basically and has a pretty decent schedule.

Based upon the text it looks like a Windows "Messenger Service" Pop-Up form of spam.

It is a con job !

To disable the Windows Messenger Service, you can open a Command Prompt and type the
following commands...

sc stop Messenger
sc config Messenger start= disabled

A Router such as the Linksys BEFSR41 will also block this at the WAN/LAN interface and such
messages won't be seen on a LAN PC.

If you are worried that you PC is infected, please usethe following Multi AV Scanning
Tool....

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

Welcome to reality. The facts speak for themselves: Perhaps
one out of twenty posters will say "Thank you" for the advice
he received free of charge, no matter how urgent and how
critical his problem was and how much time, effort and pain
your expert advice may have saved him.

Although I am pretty sure I gave accurate information, I am more interested in feedback if
it helped or not. It's the only way to provide better answers in the future.

I was hoping to invoke a response from the OP.

well, USEnet etiquette used to say that posting "thank you" was a
waste of bandwidth... although I've always done it to be polite.
