URGENT - Broken Folder Redirection

G

George

Hi group,

I have a quick question regarding folder redir on a Win2k server:

Have just inherited a small LAN (<20 users) where the old admin configured
the all folders to redirect to the following location:

- Application Data: Basic - Redirect .... same location
\\server1\share\users\%username%

- Desktop : Basic - Redirect...
\\server1\share\users\%username%

- My Documents: Basic - Redirect...
\\server1\share\users\%username%

As you can imagine this messed things up very badly as all users have their
folders spilling over their desktops...

I was wondering if there is any way that this can be undone... I have tried
creating specific shared folders for example "desktop" and "application
data" and edited the folder redirection paths but the existing folders that
were created in the original paths will not get moved.

Has anyone been through this before?

Many thanks in advance,

Kapa

Hi George,

There is no way for the system to know if a folder is from the application
data, the desktop, or the my documents directory. Sorry -- you will have to
manually sort out what goes where. :(

(or you could restore from backup if you have one)

Funny you posted this, sinceone of my clients did the same thing testing it
on his laptop. He spent the rest of the day manually sorting the stuff back
to where they belong. He learned a lessen with that one.

As Mike mentioned, you would need to manually sort it out.
