UPS Service is Trying to Modify UPS?

About 2 or 3 weeks ago I started receiving this message from my firewall (Zone Alarm) when I start my computer:

"UPS Service is trying to modify an existing driver or service: UPS"

I know what the UPS service is all about. At least, I thought I did. But why would the UPS service be trying to modify the UPS service? Thanks for your help.

I know what you're talking about. Been there.

The first time I saw a message like that, the UPS service was trying to
modify UPHCLEANUPHLP\ENUM. I was running the UPH Cleanup service at the
time, so I uninstalled it to see if the message from my firewall (Zone
Alarm) would change. Well it did, and it said the same thing you saw,
that the UPService was trying to modify UPS.

At first I thought "is Zone Alarm up to something weird?" but I checked
the Zone Alarm user forums and no one else had reported that message.

So I thought I would just disable the UPS service, since I'm not
monitoring my UPS anyway. But I've always been wary of interfering with
system services, so I tried something else instead.

I checked my UPS settings (Control Panel > Power Options > UPS tab) and
saw that a UPS had been selected for monitoring (an APC model that I
don't even have.) I set the UPS selecter to "None" and haven't seen that
message ever since. Perhaps you might try that, if you're not monitoring
your UPS.

Even if you are monitoring your UPS, I'll bet the software doesn't rely
on the UPS service inwhich case you can try stopping the service and set
it to start manually.
