Uploading with FrontPage 2003

Guest

I have been using this software for a long time (from the 1st version til now
with 2003).
I have had a lot of issues off and on with timing out during uploading. But
in past host has always done something that fixed problem. They always say
it is not on their end, but if I complain enough it magically starts working
again.

Now I am evening getting error when trying to publish (including subsites),
where it will say I don't have permission to do so. Come up when it tries to
access subsite. Host says they have not changed anything but never did this
before they starting working on publishing issues.

What is the exact error you are getting?

Also, search your computer for a file named wecerr.txt and see if there are any relevant
error messages in it.

Try publishing the root and then the subwebs individually.

Thomas,

How do I publish the subsites individually? I know I can publish the root
by just unchecking the "Include subsite: box in the publish dialog box.

How can I publish changes only to the subsites?

If I right click on the subsites as shown in the Whole site will that only
publish changes??

Open the root web, then double click to open the subsite, then File Menu | Publish Site and then
enter the URL as http://www.domainname.com/subsitename

When you work with Frontpage always remember that it was designed on state
of the art computers running only MS software and maintained by some of the
best computer maintenance professionals in the world. When test sites are
published they are published to meticulously maintained Microsoft servers
with only a few other users - the perfect world for FrontPage.

Now take FrontPage out and put it in the real world with overloaded servers
running dodgy scripts, viruses, slow internet connections, overloaded client
PC's with not enough memory, disk space and a host of other problems you'll
find that FrontPage performs poorly. This is the reason many people suggest
using FTP and other software. I know I've been using FrontPage on and off
for many years. Yesterday I tried to upload 10 meg of files using import.
It took me about 4 hours!

Thomas, my provider (web.com) says they did not change anything on their end.
So why would I get an error saying I don' have permission to perform
function, when I try to publish including subsite. It fails once it starts
to open subsites. Used to work fine for well over a year.

Thanks

Well, I can see where trying to /upload/ files using /import/ would be a
problem. LOL.

If you are hosted on Windows, ask the host if they recently install any updates.

I am on Linux system as I was told that Frontpage actually performs better on
this platform. Is that correct, or should I switch to Windows

FP provides access to more function when use under Windows Server with FP extensions.

Thomas, hate to be a pest but can you provide what I would get under Windows
vs. Linux. I now have FrontPage Ext under Linux.

Under Windows IIS (If allowed by web host) you would have access to the following FP features:

1. File Upload Component
2. Web Site stats
3. Index Server (Site wide search)
4. Database components (ASP/VBScript and Access database)

Issue is: Unexpected server disconnect
Using FP 2003, Windows XP with patch 2 loaded
I made updates to a subweb that changed the navigational structure. When I
try to publish (using Publish Site) I get question where to let FP merge
changes, ignore changes, or change destination site. I want to change
destination site, but no matter which I choose, I almost immediately get a FP
message, Unexpected server disconnection (or something close to that)
My ISP host has no idea why - neither do I. I have published many changes
to the subweb during past month without problem.
Thanks,
Kevin Riddle

Try opening your online subweb in FP and Publishing from remote to local

Stefan, by combining your recommendation with deleting files that were
displayed as problems, I was able to rebuild the structure on the server.
Thank you very much. I can't help but wonder why changing the local/remote
references made any difference.
Thanks again,
Kevin
