Upgrading XP Home to Pro, missing files

When trying to upgrade from Home to Pro, i 1st encountered the 34 minute
problem, i overcame this with disconnecting hardware devices.

My next and larger problem, of which i have searched the internet for an
answer is this;

About 28 minutes remaining into the install, (upgrade), & when installing
start menu stage begins i get the error message "E:/I386/can't find
****.dll_" The stars there are because there are many many files missing and
not just dll extensions. (you can see the files they just don't work)

So i tried running it on a different cd drive, no luck
I came to find from research it may be due to windows not recognising the
"_" so i re-burnt the installation disc in a DOS ISO format (mode 1), guess
what no luck!

I can't exit the setup as such, just skip the whole file section (by
clicking "no" on "continue setup"), so i have ended up with a booting and
half working version of XP Pro, i can't connect to secured wireless networks,
can't even open the windows firewall, USB drives aren't recognised.

Quite allot of these problems i thought could be service pack related, but
i've hit a dead end not, Please any idea's you have are great! Deadlines
soon, i need this computer running properly.

Other problems caused by the bad install (that can't be repaired either,
just same errors);

Windows Media Player crashes once open
Internet Explorer opens then anything you type in opens mozilla.window
(meaning i can't reconnect to the windows update site as thath only runs in
IEexplorer?!?!?! )

HelP!

Actually the problem exist in "thier is no upgrade from home to xp pro" the
upgrade is for older windows OS...To install pro from xp home,boot to pro cd,
select install xp,new copy,delete the partition (xp home),create one,then xp
formats the hd & does a clean install...

Open a command prompt window (start - run - CMD) and enter the
following command:

SFC /SCANNOW

You will have to insert your XP Pro CD when asked.

Good luck
