Upgrading to XP from 2000 Pro

I just bought XP home edition because I keep running into problems with
2000pro that is currently installed onto my system because of a crash. I
bought the computer and it had XP Pro, however after the crash I found out
that it was most likely a illegal verson of the OS because ME was the
original OS and I did not have anything saying it was not, however the
computer tech guy could not install ME back on to the system and installed
2000 Pro instead. Reading over the information I have with the purchased Home
Edition I should in fact be able to install it as long as I do a New Install
instead of upgrading, the problem is it will not let me to a new install. I
find it outragous that I am being forced to spend an extra $100 for a OS I
don't want and won't use fully, can't I just put xp home on my system? I do
not care to save anything I'm willing to reformat to make it compatible, any
help? or ideas?

You boot from the CD and do a clean install.

Win2K cannot be upgraded to WinXP Home; you'll have to format the hard
drive and perform a clean installation.

Simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
