Upgrading to windows 2000?

I tried upgrading to windows 2000 from windows ME, and it will not complete
the upgrade.
When it gets to "Updating(Or was it upgrading?) system files and programs",
it gets about halfway then restarts the computer. Is there any way to fix
this?
I also tried to convert the file system to NTFS.
I was trying to upgrade to windows 2000 Pro.
Thanks for any help.

There is no upgrade path from ME to Windows 2000. You say you "tried"
to convert the file system to NTFS. How exactly di you "try" that? You
will have to install Windows 2000 from scratch... and hope that any
files that you wanted to keep are still intact.

Well, it said "Would you like to convert the file system to NTFS?" or
something like that and I just clicked yes.

Ok... If you think that you might be able to recover the installation
you can try doing an In-Place Upgrade. See here:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292175/EN-US/

This might enable the pc to boot and allow you to recover files that you
may want to keep. Keep in mind that this will NOT do an upgrade from
ME, you will need to reinstall almost all of your programs for them to
work properly. If you don't need anything on the drive or after you
have recovered your files it might be best to format the drive and start
again, this will make for a more stable installation.
