Upgrading NT 4 domain to Win 2000

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade our NT 4 network to Win 2000. I ran
into a situation with our domain name. Our domain name has
a dot in the middle. Something like XXX.ORG. When I go to
upgrade to Active Directory, it wants to assign a prefix
to it. How can I get away from it and leave my domain as
is.

Thank you
Lev

In NT4 everything was Netbios and you could have Kingston.org as a netbios
domain name and name resolution is based in WINS. However in w2k and w2k3 it
has moved to DNS for name resolution and DCs have to register a DNS name.
This is why when you upgrade a NT4 Domain that it asks for a DNS name.

Thank you very much.

Is there any way I can rename NetBios name before
upgrading to Win2K? The users won't be connected to it
anyway.

Thanx,
Lev
