Upgrading my A7A266

I bought my A7A266 motherboard a couple years ago with an 1400 MHZ
Tbird. I was noticing on the ASUS sight I can upgrade up to a model
2600 if I upgrade my bios. When I built this box I had some
unexpected problems with heat compared to my K6. So I guess my
question is what sorts of things will I have to look out for to make
sure my PC can handle the new chip

I assume many components should be fine. Do the new chips run hotter
or about the same? Do they require more power? If so I may need
some adjustments to the box.

I was also wondering if the thorton core was better than the
thoroughbred. I saw a choice of the two for about the same price.

U would be lucky to get a 2600 as they went out of production at fsb 266
which you would need. a 2400 is a decent processor tho and fairly cheap.
dont know of any heat problems

An XP2400 will run considerably cooler than that Tbird 1400.
