upgraded GPOs for XP

I recently followed the instructions in KB article #307900
to upgrade the group policy templates on our Windows 2000
AD controller for XP clients.

The first problem was that some of the GPO's did not get
upgraded when I opened them from the XP MMC snap-in. I
was able to workaround that simply by re-creating the
GPO's.

The other problem that I've got is that most of the
sections under User Configuration\Windows Settings (such
as Internet Explorer Maintenance, Security Settings, and
Folder Redirection) seem to be missing when viewing the
GPO's from XP. However, they are still visible from 2000.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi:
The policy you are looking for does not exist in XP. If you can still see
this policy on the 2000 DC, it would seem the ADMs from XP did not copy to
the 2000 DC.

Please look at:
In the Select Group Policy Object dialog box, Local Computer appears
as the target object. Click Browse, select the GPO that you want to
upgrade, and then click OK. Note that when you click Browse, a delay
might occur while Windows searches for the policy objects in the domain.

and
- The Windows XP Group Policy snap-in implements a new feature that
displays the operating system version that is required by an
Administrative Template policy setting in the side pane in Extended
view. The Windows 2000 Group Policy snap-in cannot display this version
information, but can be used to modify the administrative template
settings after being upgraded.

Thanks

Hi,
We're seeing the same issue here, and I've followed the KB Article you
mentioned below to no avail. Our DCs are Windows 2000 SP4. Oddly some GPOs
show the XP updates while some don't. Not sure what else we can do.

Thanks,

If you're getting no "software installation" or are missing the
"software installation" in the "software settings" under "user
configuration" or "computer configuration" in group policy, try

regsvr32 appmgr.dll

I had sharepoint portal server 2003 installed. I don't know if that
makes a difference.
