hello,
im using XP home edition and i want to upgrade it to the professional one.
But my prof. edition is older than the home. Is it possible to install the

You choices are a clean install (erase everything and start from scratch) or
slipstreaming (create a new install CD combining your XP Professional CD and
SP 2). Which way would you like to go?

You have SP2 installed, and your XP Professional Upgrade is without it, so
is an older version than what's installed.

You have two choices:

1. Uninstall SP2, do the upgrade, then reinstall SP2.

2. Create a slipstreamed version of XP Professional, including SP2, and use
it. See http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=7262

I recommend choce 2.

The first question is not how but _why_?

People assume "pro" is somehow better than "home", but for the
majority of users the only significant difference is the added price.

What exactly do you hope to gain by this "upgrade"? Odds are that
someone more expert than I will tell you the desired feature (1) is
already available in home or (2) doesn't exist in pro.

Did you use the original installation CD (the one to which your Product
Key is bound) when creating the slip-streamed CD? If you didn't use the
original CD, or another CD of exactly the same type license, than the
Product Key won't work.

Product Keys are bound to the specific type and language of CD/license
(OEM, Volume, retail, full, or Upgrade) with which they are purchased.
For example, a WinXP Home OEM Product Key won't work for any retail
version of WinXP Home, or for any version of WinXP Pro, and vice versa.
An upgrade's Product Key cannot be used with a full version CD, and
vice versa. An OEM Product Key will not work to install a retail
product. An Italian Product Key will not work with an English CD.
Bottom line: Product Keys and CD/license types cannot be mixed & matched.
