Upgrade XP (Czech) to Vista (English)

After running the web based upgrade advisor on the machine it told me I could
run Vista. Being the owner of licensed XP I chose to Upgrade - Home Premium @
$159. During upgrade I'm told sorry can't change language !!!

I managed get installed and running by skipping the Product Key stage. But
now when I try to register I'm told the license I have is for Upgrading, not
Clean Install. I''m trying to upgrade...and I chose "clean install" during
the install process !

How can I complete my registration without spending ANOTHER $200+ ?

VISTA Ultimate is the only one in which you can change the display
language for VISTA itself.

Do a search here on MUI or Language Pack and you'll find several
threads.

But I don't want to "Change" the language, I want to do a "clean install" of
Home Premium.

Are you telling me my only option is to spend another $250 on top of the
$150 I've already spent after being told by the "Upgrade" Advisor that I
could run Vista?

Perhaps I misunderstood you since gave a subject of:

Upgrade XP (Czech) to Vista (English)

and in the message you said:
During upgrade I'm told sorry can't change language !!!

Now you say you don't want to change language.

So what do you want to do? And say exactly what you did -- did you
remove XP first or what? Have you at any point entered the KEY and
authenticated or tried to authenticate the VISTA installation?

Kindly remember that you are not addressing Microsoft here but other
users of VISTA. If you don't like what you have to do, take it up with
Microsoft.

Apologies for the prior tone... frustration! I've counted to 10 :)

My actions:

I have a laptop running XP (Czech) I want to load Vista (English)
I ran the Upgrade advisor which indicated an upgrade was possible.
I purchased Vista Home Premium - Upgrade

I did NOT uninstall XP
I ran the Vista installation choosing the clean Install option
It prompted that the upgrade would be disabled but it allowed me to proceed
- I can't recall what the outcome was at this stage but I re-ran the
install at some point

I skipped the registration entry stage and Vista is running.
When I attempt to register I'm told that this version is for an upgrade.

So, what I'm figuring is that the Upgrade Advisor was misleading, it appears
you cannot upgrade from a non-english language. Correct?

Is there any way of registering the version I have installed?

If not, what version of Vista would I have to purchase to install on this
machine?

No problem -- I've been frustrated more than once said:
I ran the Vista installation choosing the clean Install option

I've never fully understood what happens because I ran mine to dual boot with
leaving XP where it was. Did your procedure wipe out XP completely or did it
put the old XP files into a folder -- Windows (Old) or something like that?

I can't myself help you with that question of upgrade but you might add to
the information here whether your XP Czech was bought in that country and
whether your VISTA English was bought there or in/from the USA.

With that extra information someone here may know what is happening and
whether you can work around it.

You may find part of the answer -- XP version to VISTA version -- in this
page on Update Paths:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradepa
ths.mspx

Have a look at that to see whether the problem is with the transition between
the two versions you have or whether it is actually with the language.

I don't think that any of the information here on Language Packs is relevant
for the "direction" you want to go and for what you actually want to do but
you may find it useful to have the information:

Good luck
