Upgrade to XP SP2 killed my PCMCIA card

Before the upgrade my SST DeviceNet master PCMCIA card functioned perfectly
both on my laptop running XP pro and on my tablet running XP Tablet.
Immediatelly after installing SP2 the card was not recognized correctly,
instead showing up as an "MTD-0002" device.

Searching the web indicates this was a previous issue (in some cases a BIOS
problem, and in others because of a bug in pcmcia.sys). There was an MS
application note about the issue, though I've misplaced the number.

It would appear to me that there is an issue with SP2 and PCMCIA. Anyone
else noticing an issue?

I'm going to re-install the OEM version of XP b/c I need to use this laptop.

Because I already did it :)

I did actually check in add/remove programs but I didn't see SP2 in there,
so I just wiped it. For some reason, I was under the impression that you
couldn't back out service packs, though that may have just been restrictions
on some, and not this one.

SP1 is on it now, and the card works fine. Really looks like a bug in SP2,
most likely a repeat of the issue reported in the knowledge base article
319326.
