Upgrade: P4T533-C to P4P800Deluxe

Hello All,

Currently I have:
P4T533-C
Pentium IV 2.26Ghz/533MhzFSB
2-WD120GB raid 0
512MB PC800 RDRAM

Would I see much improvement changing to:
P4P800Deluxe
1GB PC3200 DDR

I mainly do video conversions, editing and CD/DVD burning. I figure to
upgrade to a quicker 2.8Ghz/800Mhz FSB whenever the next major price drop
happens. At the moment it's cheaper to buy the P4P800Deluxe and 1GB DDR
than to upgrade my current PC800 to 1GB PC1066. Any thoughts?

Best Regards, Bx

I have the same thought when I change my P4T533-C to P4P800 DLX about the
price of RAM. Furthermore, DDR seems to be here to stay longer. I now also
have
P4C800 DLX.

To some extent, the first impression is that the P4T533-C might appear to be
faster,
easier to handle; while P4P800 series and P4C800 series are mor picky with
RAM
and also more sensitive to BIOS update because now the AMI BIOS is used.

However, when I update the BIOS from 1009 to 1014 on a P4P800 DLX, it
now works with the same charm as the P4T533-C. If the difference in RAM
types
is not large, probably the choice between P4T533-C and P4P800/P4C800 must
be a very difficult choice.

The stability is almost the same for P4T533-C and P4C800 DLX; though it does
not
mean that P4P800 is less stable. I still like the P4C800 more.

If you think about upgrade board, I would recommend either P4P800 DLX or
P4C800 DLX; only that the latter cost a bit more.

Bx,

I've build up both...

a) P4T533-C (video editing for my wife) 512 Mo Rambus PC800, P4 B 2,4
FSB533, GeForce4 ti 4200 video card...

b) P4P800 Deluxe (as my home-PC) 512 Mo Samsung PC 3200, P4 C 2,8 FSB800,
upadated with last BIOS 1014, Matrox Parhelia 128 video card... testing
Premiere my FSB800 machine to see if it speed up in comparison with my
wife's PC, and honestly, I'll get a bit disapointed, couldn't see much
difference.

AFAIAC I do not thing it's worth upgrading P4T533-C to P4P800 Deluxe, it
seems Chipset i850E to be nearly as fast as i865PE and/or i875P, furthermore
it's easier to get a very good stability with P4T533-C than with i865PE and
i875 motherboards...

Instead upgrading for a new mobo, it could be better saving the money to buy
a SATA raptor HD 10,000... IMHO it might improve your system even more than
buying 1GB PC1066 Rambus... fast HD are quite appropriate with video
editing...

.... OTOH, I set a 2Go W2k Pagefile on my wife's PC and could see that it
improves video editing with Premiere.

I agree. The P4T533 will hold it's own with any current motherboard and
CPU. It will take the 3.06 with HT, and while it doesn't have the
800MHz FSB, it's memory system (Rambus 1066 MHz) is still faster than
800 MHz DDR, and it's a far more stable and reliable motherboard.
