I need advice on how to open files that I save from Windows ME to a disc, and now want to run/install them on Windows XP.

(Please bare with me as I am trying to get use to XP. I did not see where to search the database.)

Thanks,
Randy H.

Haus,

It is not that I can't get to the information I backed up onto CD, it's that
the programs won't accept the information I have to put in them.

Let me give you an example ...

I was trying to get my old bookmarks back into Internet Explorer. In the IE
browser window, I click on FILE ... IMPORT and EXPORT which bring up the
WIZARD.
Next ... highlight IMPORT FAVORITES ... NEXT.
Then I have to browse, as the files are on CD in the E:/ drive.
I find the file folder with all my old bookmarks in it, highlight it, click
save and I get a message saying,
I don't have permission to save in this directory ....

Getting the files from the backup CD into XP seems to be my big problem.

Thanks for you reply!

Copy the files on the CD to an empty folder on the hard drive. In Windows
Explorer, right click the folder where you copied the files and select
Properties. Click the Read Only box to remove the selection and click Apply.
A dialog box will appear, select the "Apply changes to this folder
sub-folders and files" option and click OK.

Try working with the files again.
