upgrade from IE6 to IE7

N

niki

windows update prompted me several times to upgrade to IE7 which I did. After
that IE7 does not not work. It hangs up as soon as I start it with a message
"IE does not respond and needs to close". Same problem affects Outlook 2007.
This problem is very nerving as we are a Small Business with only two hard
working pcs and this problem cuts down on our productivity. I was suggested
that the problem might come from incompatibility between windows and the
internet security suite but I do not know how to trace any possible problems.
I have Panda INternet security suite 2008 - Windows XP Home - MS office 2007
- Adobe Reader 8.1 - Nero 7 - Skype - winrar on a desktop pc Intel core 2 duo
6300, 2GB DRAM, SOUNDMAX CARD AND GRAPHICS CARD ON BOARD (Asus motherboard
P5L-MX).
Can anyone suggest a solution or where can I find some information on why IE
and OUtlook behave this way?

You may have a horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7. I suggest that
you...

1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

2a. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds).

2b. Disable all Norton Add-ons, if applicable.

3. Reinstall IE7 EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install, and using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the installation
source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

4. IMMEDIATELY go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any
critical updates offered. If a "Root Certificates" update is listed in the
Optional category, you might install it, too, to take full advantage of
IE7's additional security.
