Updating VC++ 6.0 Enterprise Edition

I recently installed Microsoft's Visual C++ 6.0 Enterprise
Edition(1985-1999) on my antiquated AMD K-6 2/300 with 160 Mb of SDRAM (PC66)
with a 120 Gb 8mb mem Seagate Hard Drive and an NVidia MX/MX 400 video card.
I use Windows XP Professional(SP1)/Firefox/Thunderbird.

I do not know if I need to update with a VC 6.0 service Pack 4 or 5 or
anything else. Can anyone tell me what I need to upgrade with or even if I
need to at all.

Yes, you need to apply the latest service pack. See:

Doug, I found the locationand I downloaded it with my IE 6. I opened it
and did not download it to disk but with "open"....now I am getting a prompt
that tells me I need to tell it to what location I wish to place the
extracted files. I thought that if you pressed "open" or "open file" it would
automatically download and place itself automatically into the appropriate
location within Visual C++ 6.0...am I not correct?

Not entirely.

The download has to unpack itself somewhere (like C:\temp). You then
have to run the real install using the unpacked files.

I got it downloaded and installed it with some difficulty....I did not
know it would extract multiple files to one location....it mixed with some of
my other downloaded program files...got that straightened out then it
installed after I told it to ignore the "set up could not open the file
C:\Windows\System32\RICHTEXT.ocx" same with MSCOMCTL.ocx. It claimed it was
in use by another application ...but I had closed everything
else......anyway...it is all unpacked and ready to fly......BUT....

I still have one nagging question. During the initial set up of my
Visual C++ 6.0 Enterprise Edition (1985-1998)....it asked me to insert the
disk for the MSDN Library.......I do have 2 disks...but I thought the second
disk was for server applications....am I correct? If so where does one get
the disk to set up the MSDN Library?.....I am not new to coding entirely...
but am to VC++ 6.0

P.S. what happened to all the tutorial websites for VC ++ 6.0??

They're on your cd's. Alternatively, you can download them from
support.microsoft.com.
