Updating the XML Schema in the Schema Library

I have designed a schema and added it to my schema library. If I change the
schema, how do I re-apply it to my document? I tried deleting the current
schema, and adding a new one and giving it the same name, but it did not
appear to take my changes.

There must be a better way to refresh the schema associated with a Word
document.

Answering my own question:

I closed and re-opened word and the schema refreshed itself.
