I downloaded Security update MS.net Framework version 1 Service pack 3. In
checking I am told download is successful and ready for install. I proceded
with install and am told download is successful. I reboot. The download icon
remains.

I am not sure I have framework.

How do I get rid of the download icon.

All help would be greatly appreciated.

There are several security updates concerning .NET Framework 1.0 SP3
(eg. KB867461, KB886906, KB928367).
In checking I am told download is successful and ready for install. I
proceded with install and am told download is successful. I reboot.
The download icon remains.

Visit the Windows Update site and install all available security updates.

Hard to believe - I know *all* software that I had installed and that
is just one of the basic requirements in order to run a secure system.
Why don't you check with the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
How do I get rid of the download icon.

First, remove that update when showing up in Add/Remove Programs.

There is a newsgroup dedicated to update problems that might be more
helpful:

If you use a news reader: microsoft.public.windowsupdate
Thanks for that Ron; a post by a guy called Shenan Stanley (223105) sorted
out all my troubles, but I must admit I went the easy dial-a-fix route!

Judging by the number of pleased response, this was troubling quite a lot
of people
