Updates automatically fail to install

The only way updates occur on my PC is if I run Msiexec /x
{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C} and also use Windows Install Cleanup &
uninstall completely Defender, then re-install. Are any others experiencing
this also?

Are you now up to date with yesterdays update? I've not needed to uninstall
or reinstall, but I've used both of the other methods you mention on one
machine or another. Let me know how this goes next week, or whenever the
next update comes out?

Yes, I've had similar. Defender hadn't updated for 16 days, and every time I
tried to manually update it the response was that no updates were available.
Tried the Msiexec, but that failed (can't remember the error msg). So
uninstalled and reinstalled, which brought it up to date. If there's a
repeat, I'll just junk it. Life's too short for that sort of hassle.

My Defender is up to date, and the process of repairing as per Microsoft's
Article ID # 915105 does not work on either my laptop nor my desktop. I
weekly run both the repairs, using #915105 first, then go to the update
button, but it will not update. Then I use Windows Install Cleanup and
completely uninstall Defender, and then go back to Defender's web-site &
install the product again which will then have the latest & greatest updates.

I have had to use this methodology now for the last three updates, and do
expect to continue this methodology until a real patch is issued which will
repair it.

What is really unique, even after I do update Defender, then run a full
scan, I can then run Ad-Aware SE Personal, and it will always find items not
removed by Defender.

This latest update includes a code update, so it is possible that behaviors
will change--we don't have any info about what is fixed, however, except for
some bugs which prevented completion of scans on some systems.

I'm not at all surprised that Ad-aware finds items Windows Defender does
not. Among other things, they define certain kinds of cookies as
spyware--Defender does not scan cookies. Additionally, there is little
industry information sharing or standardization of spyware definitions, so
detections will differ between products.

1358 built update, did take this evening without me having to do all my
previous steps. However, I did update from Microsoft's Update web site, only
one time. FYI..
