Is this freeware?

Ed

It can be. You can download it as a trial and then convert it to the
freebie version if you elect not to buy. As usual, they recommend the
clean install which the download will do for you automatically if you
opt for that.

So it sounds as tho this is just for the paid ZA then.
I downloaded and installed it last night. I'm utilizing the trial
period of full features, but the program clearly states that when the
trial has lapsed, the program can be converted to the freeware
version. The only thing that surprised me was that ZA doesn't
recognize AVG--it thinks I have no virus software!

I dont know. From what ive read it was the latest update of za (free ,pro or
both i dont know) that has caused pandemonium by not letting those with za,
update unless they uninstalled many AVs including panda and
macafee.Apparently after much incensed complaining zonelabs have withdrawn
the update and are attempting a "fix" for the update and damage limitation
control.Personally it just confirms my many years dislike of ZA , and its
overwhelming "control" problem

Mike, Anne. Thanks for that. And yes, it's not too obvious!

Once you instal it, set up preferences to automatically check for
updates then the program will tell you when an update is available and
it will go straight to the download - saves looking through all the
confusion on their web page trying to find it!!

Quite a relief for me as ZA 4.5 already froze our machines running
F-secure antivirus after the last AV engine update last February ...
we thought the AV to be the problem so we did not update the AV engine
... maybe we should kick out ZA now ... ?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong <THAT's a given! G>...but I think
every update I've had for Zone Alarm down through the years has been
for both the commercial and the freebie--you simply opt for the
freebie once the full version trial has expired OR you opt for the
freebie at installation (not download). I can't recall any update
download that did not include the freebie.

Anyone know? Am I remembering correctly?

Some people seem perfectly happy with ZA.Last time i used ZA you had to
remember to disable the true vector from starting with windows ,before you
used add/remove programmes to uninstall. If you didnt it would at best stop
you from connecting to net and give all sorts of errors....like za has found
a problem and for your safety has stopped you conecting to the net.Any prog
that also requires manual removal of its .dlls in the system folder to
completly remove it is also bad in my opinion. But as i said some people
swear by it.

I suspect you were getting AO (Appliance Operator <G>) errors. I have
not had the problems you describe.

Seems to be some discussion about the way za is going .From what i can
gather the latest version wont install unless you uninstall certain AV
products. This link was posted at one of the virus groups.

Just installed Za update - I am using AV program "eTrust EZ
Antivirus".

Only problem was it told me to shut down "True Vector" before
completing installation. After that OK

New ZA now running quite well with "eTrust EZ Antivirus".

Im not sure what AO is :)...but i can attest that ZA can cause all sorts of
problems if you uninstall (after exiting ZA )but have not shut down true
vector services(by stopping it starting as a service).Perhaps you have been
lucky or dont suffer from AO :).By the way its been pointed out that the
zonelabs uninstall procedure which showed you how to finish off manually its
very poor uninstallation procedure (i.e deleting about 8 .dlls and .vxds in
windows system folder )has vanished and now takes you on an endless loop of
redirects. It used to be this link..

Any ideas where to find it now? as id like to keep it for future reference.
