Updated Appointment generates a cancelation

I create an appointment and send it to a distribution list. Everyone gets
the appointment ok. If I add or remove text to the original appointment and
re-send it is generating a cancellation -and- the update. I seen the
cancellation and the update (both) in my Sent box.

The recipients report that the original appointment is no longer in their
Calendar. It appears that in order for the updated appointment to go back to
their Calendar the recipient must find the updated appointment in their inbox
and open it.

How can I stop the updated versions from generating a cancellation and thus
the disappearing of the original form the recipient’s Calendars.

Can the updated version just update the original while remaining in the
Calendar?

Where can I read about the rules behind resending and updating Calendar
appointments

All depends on your version of Outlook, type of mail account and the exact
steps (clicks) you take to update the information. In general you only send
out an update.
