At last, X-Chat 2.6.0 is out.
New features include tree view layout, menu reorganization,
other GUI polishing and lots of bug fixes. This build now includes
a bunch of Daemon's and Pu7o's patches, including improved
OS/CPU view in version reply, 64bit DCC, native color picker
and native file save dialog. Also, new version of X-Tray plugin
features better defaults—now it is showing only one balloon
at a time on screen.

I am a bit confused, and I know it is my ignorance showing, but X-Chat
is not freeware, it appears to be shareware.
http://www.xchat.org/windows/ .

Is this because the other author(s) who is/are marketing this/these as
freeware is/are using the GPL license?

<confused> ... I love x-chat on linux and was saddened when I saw it was
shareware.

Official X-Chat for Windows version has been made shareware (30 days
trial),
but X-Chat is still open-source and licensed under GPL.
So there are a few free non-official builds, there are at least 8
different builds,
but only 3 of these 8 builds gets updated on a regular basis.

This page lists various X-Chat builds, which ones are free etc. etc.
