Update windows xp Serial No

Dear all,

My working company has a computer with win xp prof in sp1. and I have
bought a new xp prof with sp2 lisence and want to update the serial for that
computer. I have use the msoobe.exe command to input the serial no. but the
windows say my serial no is invaild. how can I updated the key and what
cause it happen?? that computer is running many program and I don't want to
re-install it. Thank your for your help.

That error happens if 2 versions are involved.
Upgrade/Full
Retail/OEM
Etc.
The two versions must be identical to change the key that way.

You may need to perform a Repair Installation:

Use the new CD and key.

But why do you need to?
You do not need to do this if you want SP-2.

If your only goal is a newer version, take the purchased Windows XP back or
use on another computer.
