update, update --- yikes

I'm running both Windows messenger 5.1 (for XP) and MSN messenger 6.2 (I
don't load both at the same time).

For most of my purposes I use MSN messenger, but it won't stop updating
whenever it's a new calendar day. It says I must run the update in order to
continue. What is going on? I don't see other postings with this problem.
Is there a way to stop this insane behaviour? It seems to go back and forth
between two versions ... 6.2.0205 AND 6.2.0137.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks.
Diana

Jonathan, I thank you for the response. Unfortunately, that's where I
downloaded it from. It was my attempt at making sure I had a good start.

Is there perhaps something in the registry that's creating a "version" issue
.... something that is residual from the previous install that "didn't" go
away with the "uninstall". I'm pulling at straws to suggest what might be
going on.
Thanks.
Diana

Jonathan,
Just thought I'd report back that a couple of attempts at uninstalling and
reinstalling version 6 did not help. For what it's worth, I then installed
beta 7 that same night and the problem seems to have disappeared ... I
haven't seen any other problems since then either.
Thanks for your assistance.
