Update for Windows XP HighMAT Support in CD Writing Wizard (KB831240)

Everytime I try to apply this update on one of my machines it says that
update cannot be applied and fails (all machines are configured the same
both hardware and software wise so the update took affect on the other
machines but one). How can I fix this ?

Hi,

Locate the WindowsUpdate.log file under \Windows or \Winnt, open it and
scroll to the bottom. Post back with the error codes or research them here:

Hi,

The last line says it all. There is a policy in place preventing the update.
You need to run the policy editor to unblock it. Do other updates install to
this machine, or are all of them blocked? Have you checked with the system
admin about this?

All updates completed successfully except this one. All updates were done
on an account with administrator privs. I am using XP Home Ed.

Is this machine on an internal network? The error isn't coming from the
update site, it's coming from something internal. This same update installs
on other machines in the same network?

You might also try using the catalog option and downloading it separately,
then installing it locally.

No, All machines are seperate. Exact Dell 8250 machines. Mirrored
configuration. The update applied ok on the other 2 machines. I tried the
catalog option and thats when I got the "Administrator" message.

Hi,

Right-click the setup file, use "run as", enter administrator and password
(not an admin-level account, but the admin itself), does this return the
same error?

If so, then start/run gpedit.msc, expand the User config/Admin
templates/Windows components/Windows Update and check setings/restrictions
here.

Administrator doesn't have a password (had to create one as this is a Dell).
XP Home doesn't come with "gpedit.msc"

Same results. But only on this update.
