Update for Halo 2 for Vista.

I tried to install an update for Halo 2 so I can play online. I was able to
downlaod the update to my desktop. When I try to install it I receive a
message from windows installer: The system Administrator has set policies
that prevent this installation. I am logged on as admin, and I don't know
anything about policies.
Where can I find the policies and how do I change them, so I can intall the
update.

Right click the file and select run as administrator. Yes, the main
account in Vista is an amdin account but it is an admin account with
some restrictions so it's not really a full admin account and some files
and older games you will need to give full admin access by doing as I said.

Have you tried letting Halo 2 itself download and install it?

Yes I did. After a while I see a window prepairing to install and the
everything disappears and Halo2 is closed. Nothing is installed. I also
reinstalled Halo2.

Total Guess here, take it how you want:

You "probably" have viruses... I've seen some that hijack your local
security policies (a list of rules that Windows follows) and basically
blocks you from allowing anything to install or uninstall.

If you are on a domain network (like at an office or something) then your
network admin may of setup your systems so you can't perform certain
functions.

Reply with your system specs, and how you have your system setup on the net.
Might help to go to Microsoft One Care and run a free scan of your system
(do it from Safe Mode with Networking support).

Then something is not right. You can't be in an admin account if you
don't have that option.

I found the solution myself. You have to turn off the user account control,
then download and install the updates.
After that turn on the user account control again.

I updated Halo 2 with UAC on with no issues.

Could be another case of why you shouldn't go switching it on and off,
especially if for example it was installed with it off.

Hi Rob,

Rather than turning off account control Vista in an attempt to protect your
machine 'locks' certain downloaded files. If you right click on the
download, select 'Properties' you should see an 'Unblock' button down at the
bottom under security. Unblock the file & then install.
