just now, after having a activated copy of windows, now im warned that i will
need to activate it in 3 days. ( or i can actiavte it online now )

when i try to activate it online now, it says that the key is already in
use....
well duh. because i activated it months ago already when i first bought it.

the only thing that has changed is i just finished downloading new updates:
(7/4/2007)
Important - Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597
Recommended - Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista - KB935652
NVIDIA Corporation driver update for NVIDIA nForce4 Serial ATA Controller (x2)

Can someone offer some insight to what happend?
those updates don't seem like anything out of the ordinary.
this is a full copy activated and even if it was for a trial period, its way
past that.

Im going to have to talk to the support help from India to beg for
permission to reactivate/get another activation arent I? man ive been there
b4 and i cant stand it.

[disdain]such a pain[/disdain]. this isnt a very good job on windows part of
rewarding people who actually bought a legal copy of vista. maybe i shouldnt
have turned that pirate down after all.

apologies, irritated.

NVIDIA Corporation driver update for NVIDIA nForce4 Serial ATA Controller
(x2) is the culprit for the reactivation prompt.

Use the telephone activation method, and stay on the line until you get to
speak to a real person.

Sick of this crap? Try Ubuntu Linux. No activation. No becoming
"genuine". No viruses. No malware. No need for an anti virus or anti
malware programs. You get Beryl which makes Aero look like some little
kid programmed it. Not only that, Ubuntu is FREE and can be copied and
installed on as many computers as your little heart desires. Get it here:

No, the flawed activation program is the culprit.

Why should he have to call anyone to use something he paid for?

These SATA updates are going to drive us all nuts! I hope Microsoft makes
the necessary changes to the activation process so this just goes away.

Better yet, if M/S were to stop pushing these SATA updates out to the
general public, we would only see this if someone actively hunted down, and
manually installed, the update (not many would). Then the general public
would never be bothered by the problem.

thanks for all the input guys. your wise words help alot.

now knowing what the problem is makes me consider to just leave auto-update
turned off. I mean i could just avoid these SATA issues i guess, uncheck them
each time an update goes out or something (which would be lame), but whos to
say that the next arbitrary obscure update wont do the same damn thing again.

then id have to go and waste my time again by activating via telepone.

anyways, your help is much appreciated, till next time. ~Robby
[* considers ubuntu, checks it out ;) *]

The SATA update was/is an optional update. Right click on the update and
choose HIDE.

You will not see the update again.
