unwanted wallpaper

A "security alert" page appeared as a wallpaper on my pc
which was impossible to get rid of unless I purchased
their software. After much trouble we managed to get rid
of this but now we have an "Action cancelled" web page
which is over-riding the wallpaper. Can anyone please
tell me how to get rid of this?

Try, Adaware and SpyBot, download and update before running - both free.
Install a Firewall, ZoneAlarm has a free version.
I'll assume you have an upto date AV app

The idea of spybot is a good idea and should be run no
matter what the problem is. Another one might be to turn
off active desktop. That will get rid of your message. You
could also try removing the bad background. The
backgrounds are stored in the WINNT dir. Remove the one
that is giving your problems, set your background to
something else, reboot if needed.
