Unwanted Photo Print

J

Jim Bunton

After I insert a cd or dvd data disc into the drive
Photo Print Wizard launches.

Don't want it; can't see where it suddenly came from.

tried just closing it
- it persists next time
tried clearing the check boxes all the pics it lists (a load of butterflies
and others!)
- it persists next time
gone next next to the point that it asks what printer to install (don't want
to!

How can I stop it please?
Is there any down side to stopping it?

Hi Tom -
thanks for your response to my posting.
Uninstall sounds like a great idea BUT unfortunately it's not admitting to
being insralled!

The action that is taken when a CD or DVD is inserted is controlled by a
feature called AutoPlay. There are a number of ways to deal with
AutoPlay problems, but start with this one:

Start > My Computer
Right click on the icon for your CD or DVD drive
Select the AutoPlay tab
Do the right thing and then click OK.

Hi Tom -

You can't "uninstall" it because it is cleverly built in to XP.

You can completely disable autoplay for your CD drive (already
suggested). This disables all AutoPlay options on the selected drive.

You can disable just Photo Print from your AutoPlay list using Tweak
UI (My Computer, AutoPlay, Handlers).
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

You can completely disable Photo Print in favor of a superior tool.

To Disable: Start - Run - regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll

To Re-Enable: Start - Run - regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Thanks again for your reply Tom.
This solution doesn't seem to be exactly what I need
Nor the one below
Though they may prove hepful in the future.

What happenned previously was I got a prompt to select what to do
Now I don't
have tried rebooting
have tried the suggestion given by Jose in the thread below.

This doesn't work either!
Strangely my other DVD drive is behaving appropraitely - it prompts
The one giving the problem - I have checked the Autoplay tab to provide a
prompt twice.
On reboot an autoplay window opens to say something like reinstalling
BUT it's just behaving ion the same way - The photo print wizard runs
(because there are graphics files on the disc)
A music CD automatically opens Windows Media Player.
It just ignores setting for a prompt!

Hi Lem
Thank you for your clear reply to my posting.
Have tried to set the disc to "prompt me each time to choose an action" &
tried rebooting.
After reboot and resetting the AutoPlay a window appears when clicking the
drive saying something like resetting the hardware
BUT
No go!
This Drive (L:) just doesn't want to show the prompt (which it did
previously)
Strangely Drive K my other DVD drive behave correctly

Ah ha!!!
got it!!
I was asuming that the prompt v auto was global for all the different file
types.
Now have set it specifically for each type using the combo
My apologies for being a bit slow!

Thanks again
