Unwanted Desktop Icons

S

Simon Kew

On start-up of my Windows I get several unwanted desktop
icons (advertising web addresses) appearing that are
seemingly driven by a program called 'Instant Access'.

The location of this program is

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe
EGCOMLIB_1035.dll,InstantAccess /D

but I am unable to locate it in order to remove it and
neither does it appear in my list of programs. Can
anyone help remove these annoying icons?

Thanks

do a restore point, or backup up the registry, .... then do a search of the
registry (run regedit from the Start > Run command) for InstantAccess and
deleat all registry keys referencing it.

Actually, Simon would be far better off cleaning up his computer by
removing spyware at the source. Simon, remove spyware with Spybot
Search & Destroy from www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware from
www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to update these programs before running
them. These programs are free, so run them both since they complement
each other. It is best to run antivirus and spyware removal tools in
Safe Mode. If the spyware is particularly resistent to removal, you can
also try CWShredder and HijackThis from links at www.spywareinfo.com.
Read the how-to's for these programs very carefully. The forums at
www.spywareinfo.com are also a great source for information about all
sorts of malware.

And of course, you do have a current antivirus installed (post-2002
version using updated definitions).
