Unstable system

T

Terry

I'm trying to run a program that has worked fine until yesterday. I get the
following message:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to erminate the
application.

I ran AVG (virus checker) and found 10 files infected with a trojan - AVG
deleted the files. I ran Spybot and only found cookies. Same with Ad-Ware.
Tried a restore to last week but XP said nothing had changed. Funny, I had
installed a wallpaper changer which I've uninstalled.

Someone suggested scandisk, but I can't find it.

Any suggestions?

Unless you are running a DOS program, this may very well be malware / trojan.
Your "situation" may be caused a trojan like TrojanDownloader.Win32.Dia.a.

Which program are you running? is it a DOS program?

I'd suggest 2 things: Take a look at the contents of your Autoexec.NT file ( may be viewed with Notepad ).
Second, insure your antivirus is up-to-date & do a full system scan.

BTW, What is your antivirus ?
