unstable mouse pointer.

Hi All,

Anyone have an idea as to whats happening to my mouse pointer, it seems to
have a will of its own.
It suddenly and for no reason jumps randomly to one side of the screen.
The mouse concerned is a PS2 connection but I have also tried an USB model
with the same result.
I am running Xp Pro SP2 updated.

Thanks

Tony

Check that your system is not 0wn3d by anyone.

Also if you have a laser mouse with the older foam cardboard mouse pads,
this effect will generate itself with slight vibration.
To fix this, get superglue and apply to your mouse and mouse mat, this
should solve your problem and ensure it's not you moving your mouse.

Do you have any other form of input that positions the cursor like a
tablet? Occasionally I would forget about mine and the pen would be
sitting on it. The slightest bump and cursor would reposition itself.
Drive me nuts for a few minutes until I figured it out.

Look in processes for anything strange running there.

Thanks for that, I do have a tablet but nothing is on it. The mouse is out
of range as is the pen. I have changed the mousemat and although the pointer
still occasionally jumps it is not so bad.
I suppose I will have to live with it!

Try disconnecting the tablet and see if the prob goes away. If it
does, you might have a corrupted driver or something like that. Can't
hurt to check. I know I have sat there pulling my hair out as my
pointer did exactly the same thing you describe. Then I feel like an
idiot when I move the pen and wallah. The Wacom pen (Wacom) was in
it's holder on the tablet. I took me an hour the first time and 15
minutes the second time. LOL
