Unsolicited Switch Changes for LOGON?

G

Guest

Noting that at least 5 users have had similar problems with the logon screen
coming up without the single user asking for it, I wonder who is
intentionally or unintentionally setting switches in our computers? This must
be happening during Windows updates?

This is a serious breach of privacy and a big waste of user time for us to
sort out and fix. Here are the examples I cite:

Newbie on 30 Oct 05 with Logon Question
Dennis on 1 May 06 with Logon
Gregg on 11 May 06 with Admininistrator Logon Problem
DtCage on 25 May 06 with can't logon
Daniel on 23 Jun 06 with Remove Logon Screen

Today as I was following the several instructions of some of the successful
fixes, none worked for me. I did notice that the switch to force a logon was
ON and not by my choice.

Fortunately I had Norton GoBack installed which took me back to yesterday
before I tried to rid myself of the nuisance interruption in the startup
sequence.

What is going on with Windows programming???? How can we users not be hit
with unsolicited switch changes? This costs us time and money, not mentioning
the attendant frustration.

It likely is. Many Windows updates have to do with .net framework, a
Windows programming environment that requires a user account.
This is a serious breach of privacy and a big waste of user time for us to
sort out and fix. Here are the examples I cite:

Actually it has nothing to do with privacy or a big waste of time. User
accounts should have usernames and passwords for proper security, and the
best way to handle this is to download Powertoys for XP and use TWEAKUI to
logon automatically. This gives you the best of both worlds. Proper
security and the convenience of no log in screen.

Thanks, Steve, for your prompt reply.

I see that you overheard my profound words to the little ole lady on the
park bench.

I see that it applies to unknown, mystery sources of switches in my computer
also. For something as important as starting up, one would think that a more
user friendly access to this switch setting could be implemented rather than
the cryptic START, RUN, control userpasswords2 entry and then to find that it
doesn't work!!!!

Boy do I wish Microsoft had some competition.

By the way, I followed your recommendation and downloaded tweak ui,
selected Logon, access control and waited 20 minutes while the hard drive
screwed around in its brain, thankfully not screwing up my inconvenient,
unsolicited logon display.

Bottom line this didn't work at all, and I'm done with trying to fix this,
I'll just live with it. I see that it appears that DtCage's 5-25-06 problem
didn't get fixed either.

I assume that since you didn't offer an answer to how the several users have
"all of a sudden" found the logon switch ON??????? that you have no idea. I
say that only Windows programmers could answer this, especially since access
to the switch is not found anywhere except on this site???

I'm certainly not impressed with windows logon features, but thanks for your
attempt to help.

Are you talking about having to click on your account to continue? If so-
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm has a fix(scroll down to #352
on right) & it removes the .net account that was created by one of the
updates.-Gary
