Unrecognized Format

I need help, please!!!!!

I have an Access Database that has been working fine for
months. Now, suddenly when I try to open the database, I
receive an error message "Unrecognized database
format...filename.mdb". I don't understand how it can
work one minute and two minutes later it doesn't. I do
know I have to be able to get into it or, at least, get
all the data out of it and put it somewhere else.

Can anyone give me a clue?

Have you compacted it recently?

If not then that is your problem.

Unfortunately at this point, I cannot seem to gain access
to it to compact it or do anything else. I'm trying to
find out what can be done now.

Have you compacted it recently?
If not then that is your problem.

If you compacted an MDB in a newer version of Access, which could then
convert it to the newer version of Access, then this is the problem.

Otherwise no compacting won't cause this problem.
