unread email message beside logon icon

I have Windows XP. Beside my Log on Icon there is a
message saying i have so many un read messages from my
hotmail account. How do i delete that message? I cleared
my hotmail account but the unread message will not
disappear. Thank you for yoour help

Obtain and install the Windows XP version of TweakUI. Download it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Open TweakUI (it's in Start -> Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP).
goto "Repair" > Repair Unread Mail Count and click "Repair Now"

TWeakUI can do this for you. You can download TweakUI from

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

When installed go to Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI - then go to Logon>Unread Mail - disable it in the right hand pane.
