Unnecessary Icons for Network Places

I have two computers networked: A. XP Pro, B. Linux/W2000 dual boot. When I'm using
XP/W2000, I can see from either XP or W2000 a Network Places icon for the Linux
(Samba) machine even though it is not booted (instead W2000 is). What's going on?

Even odder is that I didn't like the name of the W2000 machine so I changed it via
Ctrl Panel->Systems->Networking from AstroPC2004 to AstroPC2004-W2K. Now from the XP
machine's Network Places I see an icon for both AstroPC2004 and AstroPC2004-W2K. I
cannot delete the first of the two. If I look at its properties, it basically tells
me there's nothing there. I Agree, but how do I get rid of it?
