Unmountable Boot Volume

I cannot start XP Home due to the above error. I did not get a Windows XP
CDROM with my machine - only a set of recovery disks that will wipe all my
data!! Is there any way I can repair my installation, or get hold of a CDROM
to allow me to boot windows from CD? Or access the recovery centre? Thanks. J.

Get the floppy disk set from the link that Ricky supplied and when you
boot to the Recovery Console issue the following commands;

chkdsk /r

after chkdsk is done issue:

fixboot

Please note that there is risk of data loss when you use chkdsk.
