Unlocker Assistant

N

Nils Titley

There is this program in startup that I don't know what it does and I can't
access it.

C:\Program Files\Unlocker\UnlockerAssistant.exe

I can not find the Unlocker directory and I don't know what this does
program does.

What is UnlockerAssistant and how do I delete it?

Why is it that I can not delete programs from startup any more?

Thanks

Google is your friend. When you type

Windows unlockerassistant

into a Google search box then you get almost 30,000 hits. On the very first
page you will see links with descriptions and also links with removal
instructions.

This program is popular to delete stubborn files and folders that are
"locked" for some reason, maybe a program install or uninstall that
didn't quite go right. That can sometimes leave annoying things
laying around.

It gets installed on purpose like a lot of Windows programs and will
appear in the Add or Remove Programs dialog (Start, Settings, Control
Panel, Add or Remove Programs). Check there first.

If you have no use for it, uninstall it, reboot and see how things
look after that and any remaining issues can be addressed. It is not
benefiting you just hanging around.

If unlocker was previously uninstalled, maybe that did not work right
and you can just remove the entry from the Startup folder.

I would say it is sometimes good to have when you need it, but after
that, uninstall it and remember it if you get a sticky file or folder
sometime in the future.

You could have malware that is disguising itself as unlocker, so:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

These can be uninstalled later if desired.

It is not in the Add Remove program area.

It is a great utility that I use on a half of dozen computers here. You
can use it to copy youtube and other videos found in the temp folder.
And get rid of files and folders you can't normally remove. And it
should be in the Add/Remove listed as Unlocker followed by the version
number. And that path is were it should be installed normally.

Hi,

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and remove it from here:

The program starts upon Windows startup (see Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Also from the uninstaller under HKLM. More info here:

Troubleshooting, Removing and/or Cleaning Add or Remove Programs
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_a.htm#addremove

Added info:

Also remove it from here: Start/Run/Msconfig/Startup
And the Startup Folder via Windows Explorer

A small tool to remove unchecked items can be found on line:
