Unlimited links in PPT 2003?

I am currently developing PPT slides with PPT 2000. I have lots of
objects that I would like to have associated with external, web
addresses (URL). It is my understanding that there are only so many
links you can have with a PPT file developed with PPT 2000. I need to
have a total of 1000 links inserted.

Is it true that with a later version of PPT, like 2003, there is an
unlimited link capability? (i.e. Instead of having a fixed space for
URL text, there is a different schema.)

Also, are links inserted with 2003, if it has the unlimited capability,
something that are recognized by earlier viewers (e.g. Viewer 97).
