Unknown System Files&Folders in C:/

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this...
For example, I've just found 'pagefile System File' which is 196,608kb and
'hiberfil System File' which is 129,076kb, both in Local Disk (C:). There's
also folder named 'RECYCLER' in there and I've also found numerous unknown
folders in C:\Windows which are using my free space. They can't be deleted
manually and AntiVirus software doesn't find anything. There's also (in
almost every folder) file called 'Thumbs' (supposed to be Data Base File) and
in some folders 'Remote Desktop Connection' which previously was never there.
Can anyone of you pro guys help?

Thanks.
R.

All normal. But you are really stupid for trying to delete what you don't understand. They were hidden for a reason. To stop you breaking windows.

It would appear you enabled "Show Hidden Files and Folders". If you
wish your computer to continue to run correctly do not start deleting
files willy nilly!

The pagefile is your Virtual Memory which comes into use when you need
more memory than the installed RAM memory. Hiberfil is concerned with
Hibernation. The Recycler is for your Recycle Bin. Leave all you mention
alone.

Is your underlying problem that you are short of free space? How large
is your hard disk and how much free space? If I have guessed correct
tell us and you can be given advice about creating more free space.

Hope this helps.

Hiberfil.sys is the hibernation file

What is this file named HIBERFIL.SYS doing in my root folder?
Windows saves the state of the RAM to this file for use when you hibernate your
computer. You can remove this file by disabling hibernation, which is by Control
Panel, Power Options, Hibernate tab.

I've been using this computer since 2002 and since then I've enabled 'Show
Hidden Files & Folders' but these folders and files weren't there. Last night
I had 10gb free space and this morning there is only 8gb. I did not install
any new programs over night. However I did Uninstall 'Norton Protected
Recycle Bin' (seeing how I never undelete my files, and this program was
mainly for that reason) and was left with only regular Recycle Bin. Also, why
can't I empty that particular C:\RECYCLER folder then? As it contains 1.5gb
of files, it's reducing my disk space, big time.
One more thing. These 'new' folders are seethrough.
Thanks.

From Norton Support site
Additional Information
The following link is an article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base that
details how to delete the entire Recycle Bin structure from your hard
drive. Once this has been accomplished, Microsoft Windows will
recreate the Recycle Bin as a natural part of its operation.

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q246/7/26.ASP

If this does not solve your problem search on norton support web site
"uninstall norton protected recycle bin" for more info. I believe that
when you uninstall it leaves values in the registry that have to be
removed for the recycle bin to function as it did originally under
windows.
