every time my computer boots, this appears in my event
viewer system log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 1/24/2005
Time: 5:55:26 AM
User: N/A
Computer: xxxxxxxx
Description:
The osaio service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

There is no osaio service listed in the service manager.
There is no osaio anything listed in any startup area.
System has been virus scanned, and AdAwared and Spybotted.

I tried google to no avail. Does anyone know what this service
is and how I can get rid of it. Thank you.

Check Device Manager for related hardware. Could have something to do with
sound card.

Use Start - Run - REGEDIT

Use Edit - Find and enter OSAIO in the search box.

That should find what is launching it.

Good luck

Thank you for the replies. All I found in the registry were these:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_OSAIO
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\osaio
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\Root\LEGACY_OSAIO
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\osaio
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_OSAIO
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\osaio

the only item of any use is
ImagePath=\SystemRoot\system32\drivers\osaio.sys

and of course this file doesn't exist which is what the
service log is saying.

think I will make a checkpoint, then delete all the above.
