unknown script error in all html type files

hi, i've tried searching for the solution all over the net and here but it
seems that my problem is unique.

i get unknown script errors when opening some files. for instance i want to
add a router to my connection. one of the requirements is for me to follow
their onscreen instructions (htm format). but i can't because i get script
errors:
a blank screen

when right clicking on the blank screen and choosing properties MANY script
error boxes pops up. however, they give no indication of the type of error:

i get this script error when opening "some" other htm related files. for
instance when choosing START--ALL PROGRAMS--WINDOWS UPDATE i get a blank page
when normally it takes me to the windows update page:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v736/dznutz/tryingwindowsupdate.jpg

as before when right clicking that page i get the unknown script error:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v736/dznutz/tryingwindowsupdate2.jpg
i can no longer do manual updates but to have windows update automatically...

here is another example of this problem. when running ie7 for the first
time a customizable setting screen is displayed. however it doesn't display
on windows explorer:

when clicking on the error icon on the lower left screen i get the script
error:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v736/dznutz/customizesetting2.jpg

another example of this script error is when i go to ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS
and choose SERVICES:

please help me fix this problem.

this problem started when i removed internet explorer 6 through add/remove
programs and attempted to roll back to undelete the program but was not
successful. i've installed the newer version ie7 but it didn't fix the
problem.

i'm using windows xp home edition. originally was sp1 but was patched
through microsoft to the current sp2.

thanks for any help.

after doing some more research it seems that the problem is related to the
"internet explorer core files." were the core files not present in my
downloaded version of ie7? must i use my xp home installation disk to get
these core files eventhgough i was provided ie 5 or 6 (don't remember which
exactly) on my installation disk?

Hi David,

You have made a big stuffup!
this problem started when i removed internet explorer 6 through add/remove
Try
Rolling back to your last version of IE6. Uninstall IE7 from the Add/Remove
Programs applet, your last IE6 will be automatically reinstalled.

Repair your IE6 installation...

First thing I would try would be to (re)install the latest scripting
engines:

Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP

If no joy, and seeing you have IE 7 installed:

How to perform a repair installation of Windows XP if Internet Explorer 7 is
installed

Users of IE7 are asked to post their comments to
