Oh My God. You all wont believe this. Well, Im new at this kind of stuff
but some of you are going to think that I am just stupid. I found the key.
I just assumed that when the people that gave me the computer told me that
they lost the disc that I was just screwed. I went to look for a floppy
drive that I knew I had and found the darn key on the back of the computer.
I guess I forgot it was there or something. It says Validation Complete on
Mircrosoft so Im good to go now huh?

Thanks for everyones help!! I really do appreciate it alot.

OEM Win98SE CDs are bootable. I just tried one, and it started
with a menu to boot from the HD or CD. I chose CD and it came
up with the same DOS start menu choices as a Win98 boot floppy.
I chose "Start with CD support" and it brought up the Win98
installation screen. I pressed F3 to abort the installation it
defaulted to the DOS prompt.

Win98 upgrade CDs are not bootable.

My bad - Windows 98, not Windows 98SE.

There is a difference.

BTW - the OP did seemingly get their problem worked-around... Found their
product key sticker, etc.

Well, I have updated the drivers and all that. Now, why is there nothing
listed in the add/remove program besides my anti-virus program? Shouldnt
there be more listed?

I think with a virgin load there is nothing to uninstall. So yes, your
add/remove should be pretty much blank. The only thing you should be
able to do is go into add/remove windows components on the side of that
screen.

Hello. Im hoping that someone can help me. I was given a computer that has
a copy of XP on it that will not register so I have a legiminate copy of 98SE
to put on it. How do I go about this? When inserting the disk it doesnt ask
me to boot from the disc drive! Im not sure how to go about it.

The normal way to "uninstall" any operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.
