Unique USB Hub Problem

When I plug any USB hub in to my computer(XP SP2), I cannot install it. I've
tried plugging in the same USB hubs in another computer(XP SP2), and they
install on their own without trouble. When I plug a hub into my computer, the
"Found New Hardware Wizard" pops up and prompts me to search for the software
to install my hub. I've searched everywhere and have not been able to find
the software that I need to install that will run my hub (that should install
itself). The device manager labels it under "Other Devices," and it says I
need to reinstall the driver. Does anyone out there have any idea what I
should do?

Does you motherboard use the SIS chipset?

I have no idea. Would that cause my hub to not work? If that could be the
resaon, how do I fix it?

Some motherboards that use SIS chipsets have problems with some USB devices.
If your motherboard is one of the affected ones then you either have to
replace the motherboard or limit your use of USB devices to ones that work
with your motherboard. Look in your computer's documentation to see if it
tells you what chipset your motherboard uses. Failing that look in the
device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and System devices for any
mention of SIS. If you see SIS listed then your motherboard uses an SIS
chipset. If your motherboard uses an SIS chipset there are some
troubleshooting tips here:

http://www.usbman.com/Guides/SiS USB Tips and Tricks.htm

In my experience none of the troubleshooting tips are very effective with
most older SIS based motherboards but it may be worth a try.

What chipset and what motherboard? I'm not familiar with any USB problems
with Intel chipsets but your favourite search engine may be.

Maybe this helps:
