Unintended format changes

After converting to Word 2007, I am having trouble with unintended format
changes appearing in my document. When I change the format for a section in
one spot in the document, the same formatting changes are applied to other
sections of the document. I am not using automatic update in my styles.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to stop this.

I am having the same problem in Word 2003. Can somebody help us out with
this? Thanks.

Suzanne,
A belated thank you for your advice. I just got a chance to try your
solution and think it worked.

The saga continues. When I opened the file I thought had been corrected, I
had text that not only was formatted differently than intended, but I was not
able to reformat the text by using standard formatting options such as
clicking the B to remove boldface. When I changed the text to normal, it
formatted as intended.

I ran the macro in your article both with and without spaces around the =
sign. With each method, pressing enter was not followed by the screen
closing and returning to the document. I was expecting some sort of message
with what to do next. Perhaps I didn't do it properly.

I also am having trouble switching to a new style set in an already
formatted document. The instructions in Word make me think this was supposed
to be rather simple. Is there a secret?
