I am advising people to download this patch

and save to CD before they install XP. Once you've finished the installation
and arrive at the Activation screen disconnect from the internet by pulling
your cable plug and select the option to Activate later. Once you've gotten
to the Desktop install the above patch. Reconnect your internet cable. You
can Activate now if you wish. You should install your Antivirus software and
download the most current updates for it. Then visit the Windows Update Site
and download and install ONLY the Critical Updates including Service Pack
1. You will also need to install java which you can get from here

http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/msjavwu.exe
Finally run Defrag before you start reinstalling all your other programs and
running the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to restore that data. Good
