Hi to all of you!

I have a small porb!
Recently I have removed the he USB-USB network bridge between my desktop and
laptop because I did not want to have my home network anymore.
Everything looks nice but when I look at the event viewer->system, I see
the following error in both computers:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Description:
The USB-USB Network Bridge Driver service failed to start due to the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

I though, I uninstalled and removed the USB!

And I have more! In my desktop I have also got:

1.The IPSEC Services service termonatedwith following error:The
authentication service is unknown

2. The background intelligent transfer service depends on the following
nonexisisting service: LanmanWorkstation

How do I work this out?
Any suggestion is appreciate!!

Thanks

Fabrizio

Hi,
To correct the errors about BITS (background intelligent transfer service)
service, please see below

Lanmanworkstation service gets deleted when "Client for Microsoft Networks"
component is removed in LAN properties.
The resolution is to reinstall the component using the following procedure.

Reinstalling "Client for Microsoft Networks" networking component
* Select Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
* Double-click "Network and Internet Connections" and then "Network
Connections"
* Here you should see "Local Area Connection" icon
* Right-click on that icon and select "Properties". "Local Area Connection
properties" dialog pops up
* In the dialog box that opens
* Select Install. "Select Network Component Type" dialog pops up
* Select Client and click Add
* Select "Client for Microsoft Networks" and press OK (the installation
may prompt for Windows XP CD)
* select "cancel" in "Select Network Component Type" dialog
* Click Close in "Local Area Connection properties" dialog

Open a command prompt and type
net start bits
and let us know if BITS service can be started.

I am back!

I could not perform the operation you suggested for two reasons:
1. I do not know why but I have four local area connection icons called
Local area connection 6 " fast ethernet", Local area connection 9 " USB-USB
network bridge adaptor #2" , Local area connection 8 " USB-USB network
bridge adaptor" , and Local area connection 5 " Integrated fast ethernet
controller" . I do not know what to pick!
2. Anyhow, I got one and I follow your procedure. When I right-click the
connection and select Properties, the dialog pops up. In the dialog I can
see the name of the device and a list of items. They are all marked and the
first, client for mIcrosoft networs, is bold. When I click " install"
another dialog pops up when I can select the the network component I want to
install. I choose clients, also because I can not install neither service
nor protocol because windows was unable to find the drivers. Anyway, Let's
stick with the client option. When I select add a dialog pops up. In your
email you were talking about " clients for Microsoft networks" but the only
option I have is " clients for Microsoft for Netware" . Is that the same? On
the hand if I install the latter, I won't see the welcome screen at the
start up anymore. I would like to keep it!

To end up this email, my question is:

Can I reset all this network things as it is when I made a fresh
installation of windows XP?
By the way, my laptop is having these two new errors:

Description:
The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more
time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No
attempt to contact a source will be made for 14 minutes. NtpClient has no
source of accurate time.

Time Provider NtpClient: An error occurred during DNS lookup of the manually
configured peer 'time.windows.com,0x1'. NtpClient will try the DNS lookup
again in 15 minutes. The error was: A socket operation was attempted to an
unreachable host. (0x80072751)

Is there any connection?

Thanks for your support

Hi,
Based on your mail, it seems that "Client for Microsoft networks" is already
installed on your machine.
In that case, you shouldnt be getting the error
Please open a command prompt and type the following commands and send the
output
* net start lanmanworkstation
* net start bits

Regarding resetting the network settings to as it was when XP was first
installed, I dont have much info about that. You can try deleting the
various bridge connection icons that you have. Local area connection 6 "
fast ethernet" is the connection that you retain
