UNINSTALLED PROGRAM ...

I just got a new laptop (Inspiron 6000) and recently uninstalled Corel Paint
Shop. Now each time I turn my computer on, I am prompted to install the disc
with this program. Well, the program was installed on the computer from the
factory, so I don't have the disc. Is there any way I can prevent this
message from appearing each time I turn my computer on? After all, I deleted
the program from my computer, so I have no interest in trying to recover it.

Used the Add/Remove Programs applet to remove Paint Shop? If not,
then re-install the program from the utility cdrom that came with
the laptop and then uninstall it with the Add/Remove Programs applet.
You will be repeating this procedure several more times to remove the
other garbage that Dell installed into the laptop.

I actually did uninstall in from the Add/Remove software area -- that's why
I'm puzzled that it keeps prompting me each time I turn on my computer. There
should be no record of this program, right? I just ran 'regedit' and deleted
the folder that Corel Shop was contained in, so not sure if that'll do the
trick.

Try the Corel uninstaller in the Add/Remove...from it you can
select the pgm that you want to uninstall.

Actually, you should have used it to start with.

p.s. Corel Paint Shop is/was an excellent pgm which I would give
my eye teeth for. Oh well...

That's the odd part. I go into Add/Remove Program and Corel Shop isn't listed
anywhere -- since I already deleted it via this route. Not sure why I still
get prompted to install the disc with Corel Shop.

Maybe I should just see about getting that particular disc from Microsoft
somehow?

The disk did not come from Microsoft. Preinstalled programs came from
Dell. Apparently there is a call to install Corel in Startup. Use the
System Configuration Utility to stop the call.

Start>Run>msconfig [enter]

This brings up the System Configuration Utility. Look on the Startup tab
and find the probable culprit. Uncheck the box next to its name, Apply
and OK out. You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time
you do you'll get a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Just tick
the box that says in effect, "don't bother me about this again".
