Uninstalled Partition Magic, XP stops responding

I am working on a machine that had a FAT32 partition, one drive for the operating system, one drive for music (owner is a DJ). The owner was having problems using Parition Magic, was receiving error messages about needing to rename drives (of course does not remember any of the specifics). So, he uninstalled Partition Magic and now the computer stops responding when trying to boot windows. Cannot boot from either a DOS bootdisk or a windows bootdisk, they also freeze. I don't have much more detailed information, it's a friend's computer who was on vacation and tried to fix it himself, so at the point that I first saw it, I cannot get past the boot screen for windows. Any ideas? We would like to try to recover the music on the computer, if at all possible. Thanks, Sarah

What PM was probably doing was changing the Drive letters on some files -
which is normal when they're moved.
Sounds like he backed out instead of letting PM finish its job and complete
the changes and now has stacks of broken links pointing to the wrong
partition.
They aren't error messages, but advisements as to what PM is about to do.
